Richard Desforges, Sr.

My path wasn't linear, but curved.

I needed to learn to embrace the unexpected. Ten years ago, I would have never imagined I would have been in the place I am today. Ten years ago, I was an alcoholic, drug addict, and I was suicidal. I had difficulties in finding who I was and where I was supposed to be in life. However, going through these dark chapters in my life, I learned so much more about life itself than the straight and narrow path. The Straight and narrow path is wonderful for some, but I needed to be encased in a lifestyle to pull out what I could learn from the experience. I now see that these dark chapters were meant for me to go through. It is what makes me who I am today.

Our heroes help us along our path.

My greatest hero since the age of 16 was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I found a resilience in who he is and what he taught. To me, he spoke about much more than civil right matters. He taught me about what it was to be a man, a husband, and a father.

The three greatest callings in my life are as a father, a husband, and a Reiki Master.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of convenience and comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
