Honoring the Small Moments

Too often in today’s world we become consumed with overcoming big steps to make big moments. We believe everything needs to be on a grand scale; that we need to make these big steps in order to achieve the big goals that we have. However, most of the time when we intentionally take these big steps, we trip and fumble our way through them. The only thing the self is learning at that point is how to trip. Often, the more prudent approach is to take smaller steps to achieve bigger moments. In this, we are honoring each and everything we do and we recognize the importance of these smaller moments.

There’s a saying that when we are impatience, we are not appreciating the present moment we are in. When we are impatient, we are trying to find ourselves somewhere else than in the moment we are in at that very moment. There’s a lot to appreciate about this single moment we are in right now, especially when that single moment is simple. In today’s world, our lives are very complex, with our attention spans being challenged with phones, electronic devices, tv, and even video games. More and more our minds trail off and lack the focus in the present moment that is right in front of you. We believe the false narrative that in order to be successful, you must harness life’s complexities.

Yet, what do we lose in the process? With more technology in our world, we are losing the ability to think for ourselves. We are losing the ability to have healthy positive personal relationships. The more we hide behind these technologies, the more we begin to develop an expectation that the world should be as how technology shows it. We expect that reality is going to provide instant answers for the challenges we are trying to overcome. However, in doing so, we are forgetting the important lessons that those challenges offer us.

Taking smaller steps in order to achieve large goals allows us to stop and smell the roses.
